Mysterious Woman Accused of Killing Salem Family’s Pet Rabbit

A 38-year-old woman was arrested by Marion County deputies on Sunday for allegedly killing a pet rabbit belonging to a Salem family.

Police say the woman refused to identify herself at the time of arrest and was originally lodged at Marion County Jail as Jane Doe. She was later identified as Chantel Scott, also a Salem resident.

The family called police at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday to report chasing a woman from their property, located in the 5600 block on Silverton Road. The caller reported coming home to find one of their family rabbits dead, and believed the unknown woman killed the rabbit.

Deputies canvassed the area and located Chantel Scott, though it took until Tuesday morning to positively confirm her identity.

Scott was charged with one count of first-degree animal abuse and one count of criminal trespassing. She remains in custody at the Marion County Jail. Her initial bail is set at $6,000.
