Local Mom, Community Leader to Lead Canby Educational Foundation

Local mom, community leader and communications and marketing professional Heather Wright Zimmer has been hired to serve as the new executive director of the Canby Educational Foundation, a local nonprofit tasked with enriching opportunities for public school students through fundraising and volunteerism.

Zimmer will succeed Mary Walsh, who has retired after 12 years leading the organization. In addition to her professional experience, Zimmer brings a deep passion for helping children and their families.

“Heather is a positive and energetic leader,” said CEF Chair Loren Bell, CEF Chair. “Her professional background, love for our community and understanding of the importance of education made her the ideal candidate for the position.

“The Board is excited to work with Heather as our new executive director and confident that the Foundation will be well-positioned under her guidance.”

In a press release, Zimmer said she is delighted to have the opportunity to lead the innovative organization.

“I was raised within the Canby School District and have moved back to raise my own children here,” Zimmer said. “I am impressed by the great work and professional reputation of Canby Educational Foundation and I look forward to continuing this legacy through my contribution.”

One of CEF’s primary tasks each year is awarding grant requests from Canby School District educators, helping fill financial gaps between district budgets and offering teachers the chance to provide educationally enriching projects for their students.

Since its inception in January 1997, CEF has supported the Canby School District with more than $1 million in educational grants generated through private donations, endowments and fundraising efforts.

This year, CEF has extended the grant submission deadline until the end of the school year and encourages local teachers to apply for funds. Grant guidelines and an application are available on the foundation’s website.
