Local Credit Union, Bookstore Closed due to Covid Exposure

The Canby branch of a local credit union and a locally owned bookstore will both be closed this holiday weekend due to exposure to Covid-19 — another sign (not that one was needed) that the coronavirus will continue to make its mark on small businesses in the early days of the new year.

The Clackamas Federal Credit Union branch on Northeast 2nd Avenue across from the Canby Public Library temporarily closed this week, with the credit union informing members and the public on its website.

“For the safety of members and staff, our Canby branch and drive-up are temporarily closed due to exposure to Covid-19,” the message read.

The credit union said the drive-up will reopen on Monday, Jan. 4, and in-person appointments will resume the following week starting Monday, Jan. 11. A message from The Canby Current requesting more information was not returned.

The Book Nook’s closure was announced on Facebook Jan. 1, due to one of store owner Megan Waterman’s family members testing positive.

“While Megan and anyone else who has been inside the Book Nook continue to test negative, we have been advised to close per CDC guidelines,” the Facebook post said. “We will reopen when our doctor advises us it is safe for our customers.”

Those with a special order or book on hold may still schedule a pickup time with the store’s other employee. Customers are asked to privately message the store’s Facebook page to set up an appointment.

Customers can also shop online at booknookcanby.com.

“Thank you as always for your support during this crazy time,” the store said.
