Both drivers were injured in what responding deputies referred to as a “horrific” drunken driving crash near the intersection of Barlow and Lone Elder Roads southwest of Canby.
The crash on Tuesday, Dec. 29, involved a white Ford pickup and Jeep, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office reported on social media.
The driver of the Ford, identified by police as Pavel Mordvinov, allegedly had a blood-alcohol concentration of .402 — more than five times the legal limit in Oregon (.08).
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, a person with a BAC in excess of .40 would be severely impaired — and at risk for unconsciousness, a coma or even death from an alcohol-induced shutdown of their breathing or circulation.
Both Mordinov and the driver of the Jeep were transported to Oregon Health & Science University with traumatic injuries. The victim suffered a ruptured spleen, torn kidney and lung, five broken ribs and a cracked sternum, according to a GoFundMe page set up to assist in her recovery.
“Don’t drink and drive,” the CCSO pleaded in a Facebook post on New Year’s Eve.
Mordvinov has a long history of traffic violations going back over 20 years, including speeding, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic control device, but this would be his first DUII charge, according to online court records.
