Fire Crews Rescue Injured Logger in Remote Wilderness

A logger was hospitalized with serious injuries Monday after nearly three dozen local firefighters and first responders worked about seven hours to rescue them in a remote wilderness area east of Molalla.

The Molalla Fire District says reports came in Monday morning of an injured logger in the Williams Lake area — which was heavily damaged by last year’s devastating wildfires.

Crews eventually determined the injured logger was located approximately one mile into a deep ravine.

Molalla Fire District crews, along with fellow loggers and Weyerhaeuser employees, hiked about an hour through heavy treefall to make contact with the injured logger and provide medical treatment.

With the assistance of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Clackamas Count Search and Rescue, Canby Fire District, Colton Rural Fire Protection District, Mountain Rescue Team, CSAR and a Life Flight Network helicopter, crews were able to safely extricate the injured logger from the bottom of the ravine and up the mountain.

The logger was then transported by a Life Flight helicopter to an area trauma hospital with what appeared to be serious injuries.
