County Partners with Oaki to Give Free Rain Boots to Local Kids

We think some local parents might get a kick out of this story.

The Early Learning Hub of Clackamas Countyis launching the ‘Make a Splash!’ children’s free rain boot program this month. This program will provide free Oaki rain boots to children ages 6 and younger who qualify for income assistance programs.

 The qualifying programs include:

  • Oregon Trail card
  • OHP/CHIP
  • Section 8
  • WIC – eWIC card
  • Free/reduced school lunch
  • TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
  • Head Start

Rodney Cook, director of Clackamas County’s Children, Family & Community Connections Division, said the Early Learning Hub of Clackamas County and Oaki believe the rain boots will provide children an increased opportunity to participate in outdoor play.

“We encourage children to enjoy the outdoors not only for the physical benefits, but for cognitive, social and emotional development,” Cook said.

Early Learning Hub officials at the county approached Oaki, a Vancouver, Wash.-based company, about the need of young children for rain boots in Clackamas County. Oaki officials agreed to partner for this program and have been instrumental in its success.
