The Willamette Valley Country Club’s “Friendsgiving” Fundraiser and Golf Tournament Saturday was a smashing success, raising more than $20,000 for The Canby Center and Friends of the Canby Public Library — with the former receiving the larger share.
The golf tournament and raffle raised a total of $20,693, according to the Ladies of Willamette Valley Country Club, who organized the event.
It was intended to replace two fundraisers the country club has traditionally hosted for local nonprofits, but had to nix this year due to the coronavirus pandemic: a spring luncheon benefitting the Friends of the Canby Public Library and a holiday luncheon for The Canby Center.
The proceeds from Saturday’s event were split between the two groups, with The Canby Center receiving three-quarters of the amount.
Friendsgiving Committee Chair Laura Baldonado, who helped organize the event and raffle in a two-month timeframe, reported that 136 golfers participated, with tee times that were staggered throughout the day.
The winner of the chipping contest, Teri Eazell, received golf passes for The Reserve. Sadly, none of the participants walked away with the coveted hole-in-one prize.
The funds will support services at The Canby Center that provide food, clothing, lunches, tutoring and other needs for the community’s vulnerable youth and their families, as well as reading programs, book purchases and special needs for children and teens provided by the Friends of the Library.
