One night only: It’s a glamorous evening celebrating fashion and fun in the beautiful Antonia Ballroom above the Backstop Bar & Grill in Canby. What more could you want? Perhaps the chance to help less fortunate people in our community? Well, it does that, too.
April in Paris is a new event in town, the brainchild of local resident Donna Bryant, who spent more than a year developing the idea.
“I wanted to do something special for the ladies in this community,” she says. “There seems to be more events for men in this town: Hot rods on the Fourth of July, the Cutsforth’s Cruise-In, etc.”
She also noticed The Canby Center requesting help filling their shelves throughout the year, and she had a desire to help those in need.
“I have been blessed so much in my life I wanted to give back to a good cause and to those who are struggling,” she says. “I grew up in a household with very little but was taught to share and give.”
Donna says she has been accused of being a “fifi,” though certainly not by me (since I…have no idea what that is).
“I love wearing hats and gloves and dressing up for church or evenings out,” she says. “I never leave home home without my face on. So, I thought I would do a ladies only night only and encourage them to put on their personal style and come out e joy an evening of fun.”
Donna’s involved a number of boutiques and other local vendors who specialize in the finer things in life, including MovuEsthetics, Ellie May’s Beauty Bar, Park & Lu Boutique and Pink Door Antiques in Aurora. All attendees will be able to enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne, hors d’oeuvres and music by pianist Danny Barnett.
It all happens tonight, April 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $15 plus two non-perishable food items to benefit The Canby Center food pantry. Evening dress welcome. Must be 21 or older to attend. For more information, check out the event’s page on Facebook.
