The classic trope of small-town firefighters rescuing a cat stuck in a tree may be a thing of the past. At least here in the Willamette Valley, it’s all about the ducks, baby.
On Monday afternoon, the Clackamas Fire District posted photos of its Engine 306 crew out from Happy Valley and their daring rescue of 11 baby ducklings who had gotten lost done a storm drain.
Using special tools (perhaps a fireman’s quacks, bill-horn or even a fire duck), firefighters were able to rescue the ducklings and reunite them with their grateful mama.
Not to be outdone, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded on Twitter with the ultimate of quack-backs, pointing out that rescuing 11 ducks is great and all — but, you know, their guys saved 12 just last month.
“Well done, @clackamasfire but… here is what it looks like when you save a dozen ducklings,” TVF&R tweeted, followed by three yawning emojis.

In that incident on April 19, a crew from TV&R’s Beaverton station had fished the lucky ducks out of yet another roadside storm drain — much to the relief of their “panicked” mother.
Although, to be fair to Clack Fire, TV&R did not specify a number at the time.
Anyway, keep up the good work, guys — and watch out for Pennywise. This is just up his alley.
