Clackamas County WIC Program Relocating to Canby Public Library

The Clackamas County Canby Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is relocating to the Canby Public Library, effective Oct. 3.

Clackamas County will provide WIC services from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursdays, at the Canby Public Library. Literacy goody bags from Canby Kiwanis will be provided while supplies last.

The county says they picked the library because it’s a central location near public transit, with story time, a play area and bilingual books.

The WIC program in Clackamas County helps over 6,800 women, infants and children each year through nutrition and breastfeeding education, referrals to community resources and access to healthy food. Studies have shown that participation in WIC reduces premature births, infant mortality, low birth weight, anemia and childhood obesity.

The WIC program also benefits the local economy. This past year, participants spent more than $2.4 million on healthy foods at local grocery stores and over $45,000 on fresh produce from local farmers.

Fathers and caregivers, such as grandparents, legal guardians and foster parents, can also sign up a child they care for depending on their levels of income. Those who currently receive OHP, SNAP or TANF are eligible for WIC benefits. Families who do not receive those services may also qualify.
