Clackamas Community College Offering Bilingual Courses for Aspiring Contractors

Clackamas Community College’s Small Business Development Center is offering bilingual courses aimed at helping newly licensed contractors or those looking to earn their Construction Contractors Board (CCB) license

In the Small Business Management Program, which is for newly licensed contractors, participants will learn about:

  • Marketing techniques, materials and sales strategies
  • Key partners to take business to the next level
  • Blueprint reading basics
  • Things to know as a subcontractor or when hiring a subcontractor
  • Construction math
  • Best practices with vendors
  • Intermediate estimating
  • Loans, financing, construction liens and customer bankruptcies
  • Taxes and basic financial statements
  • Contracting basics (federal, state, municipal and institutional)
  • This course will be held the first Wednesday of each month, Oct. 2 through June 3, 4-7 p.m., at the Small Business Development Center on the CCC Harmony campus, 7738 SE Harmony Road, Milwaukie. The cost is $695 and includes free private coaching.

    For those who are looking to start working in the field of construction, the Small Business Development Center is also offering a two-day course offered in both English and Spanish that will prepare students to quality for and successfully pass the CCB exam.

    The Spanish class boasts a 75 percent passage rate, compared to the state average of 16 percent. Once the students pass the exams, they can apply for their CCB license with the help of one-on-one counseling as well as register their business with the state of Oregon.

    Upcoming course dates are Oct. 4-5, Nov. 15-16, and Dec. 6-7, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $425.

    CCC’s Small Business Development Center provides classes and courses to help take a business to the next level, as well as confidential, one-on-one business counseling for free. Discounts available for veterans.
