City to Consider Improvements for Canby Taco Bell

The Canby Planning Commission will next week consider plans for exterior renovations and other improvements at the Taco Bell restaurant on the Highway 99E strip.

The planned redevelopment includes moving the wraparound drive-thru lane closer to the existing building, removing 12 parking stalls, installing a drive-thru canopy and updating the menu board and signage.

Reducing the parking lot size will still leave 18 spaces for the restaurant (which primarily serves drive-thru customers — even before the coronavirus pandemic).

Other changes include increased landscaping and a new trash enclosure. The existing building is 2,152 square feet, and the owners have no plans to change the existing footprint.

The project team is led by architect Jeff Wright, of the Portland firm MCA Architects, and met with city staff for a pre-application conference in September 2020.

The Canby Taco Bell is located at 845 Southwest 1st Ave. and is owned by the Tofte family trust, according to planning documents.

The Planning Commission is scheduled to review the application at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11 and will be broadcast on CTV Channel 5 and the city’s YouTube channel.
