City Reminds Residents to Shop Local with New Campaign

The holiday shopping season is just around the corner, and city leaders are reminding Canby residents to keep their dollars in the local economy with a new campaign: “Shop Small. Shop Canby.”

The city’s Economic Development Department, which brands itself Canby Business, is also asking local business owners and residents to help spread the “Shop Small. Shop Canby.” message with a series of sharable, readymade social media posts.

The campaign was created to remind consumers to shop locally during the holiday season, and the graphics have been made available to local businesses, media and the chamber, as well as residents or visitors interested in participating.

“While our businesses are still experiencing the ripple effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s important to remember that every dollar spent locally helps to keep money in the Canby community,” said Jamie Stickel, economic development director and communications specialist for the City of Canby.

In addition to sharing the graphics and tagging your favorite local businesses on social media, another great way to support Canby businesses is to participate in Small Business Saturday — Nov. 27 (the Saturday after Thanksgiving).

Stickel said that about two-thirds — or 67 cents — of every dollar spent at an independent, locally owned business stays in the community.

“While that might not seem like much, it means the world to our local businesses,” Stickel said. “That means $67 of every $100 dollars spent stays in Canby, or $670 of every $1,000. The impact is tremendous!”
