City of Canby Now Accepting Applications for City Council Vacancy

Interested in serving your city? The hours can be long, the job is often thankless, and the pay — well, let’s be honest — the pay is not great. On the plus, side, the position comes with lots of free coverage in the local podcast.

The city of Canby is now accepting applications to replace Councilor Tracie Heidt, who recently announced her resignation, effective July 17.

Though Councilor Heidt’s term just started this year and would have continued through the year 2022, the person appointed to replace her will be guaranteed the position only through Dec. 31, 2020. Under the terms of the city charter, the replacement will serve until just after the 2020 general election, at which time they — or a different candidate — would be elected for the remaining two years of the term.

Qualified applicants must have lived within Canby city limits for at least the past 12 months and be a registered voter in the state of Oregon.

Applications will be accepted now through July 5. They can be found online at https://www.canbyoregon.gov/CityGovernment/boards_committees.htm or picked at City Hall, 222 NE Second Ave. Applications should be returned to the City of Canby, Attn: City Recorder, PO Box 930, Canby, Oregon. For more information, call 503-266-0733.

Candidates will be interviewed by the remaining members of the City Council during a special session on Wednesday, July 24, at 7 p.m. The new councilor will be sworn in Aug. 7.
