City Nets $100K in State Grants to Plan for Future Housing Needs

The City of Canby has received two grants from the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) to help it assess and plan for the community’s housing needs over the next 20 years.

DLCD awarded the city approximately $65,000 for consulting services to complete a housing needs analysis and $35,000 for a housing production strategy.

“The grants will greatly help the city understand the housing needs for everyone in Canby,” Planning Director Don Hardy said in a press release. “It will assist us in identifying what types of housing and what additional land is needed to accommodate the forecasted 20-year population for the city.

“This will be also valuable as the background information for the anticipated City Comprehensive Plan update process which is anticipated to start in the fall 2022.”

The housing needs analysis will be used to assess the current housing inventory of the city and identify a suitable supply of buildable land. The housing production strategy will outline a plan and timeline for implementing tools, actions and policies to address the housing needs.

Both documents are required by the state of Oregon.

The Planning Department has also submitted an application for approximately $50,000 through a DLCD Economic Opportunity Grant, with the city pledging another $22,000 in in-kind services. The city expects to hear back from DLCD on this grant by December.
