City Council Will Consider Pine Street Annexation

The Canby City Council will meet this Wednesday. Their agenda includes a request to annex 9.6 acres of undeveloped land on North Pine Street in the northeast area of the city.

If approved, the currently existing farm and forest land would be rezoned for low-density residential development (R-1). The Planning Commission previously lent their support to the proposal.

One resident, Jean Robison, spoke in opposition at the hearing last month, saying it should be held off until safety and drivability concerns are addressed on North Pine Street.

In other business, the city will look at trimming its fees for street trees  for new development. The council had just raised the fees for planting and maintenance of new street trees from $200 to $500 in July.

They now feel that fee is too high and are looking to bring it back down to $250, as well as reducing the years of required maintenance by the city from three years to one year.
