Another day, another win for Canby’s professional bull rider Chase Dougherty ! He scored 89.5 in the 8th go-round Thursday night of the National Finals Rodeo for the co-win with Joe Frost, from Randlett, Utah.
It was Chase’s second win in a row, and his fifth scoring ride so far. The 20-year-old cowboy and 2016 Canby High School grad is now sitting pretty, in second place in his first-ever NFR — and only 2.5 points from the leader, also Joe Frost.
In an interview with the Independent Record of Helena, Mont., Chase was characteristically modest of Thursday’s performance. The 89.5 was his best score of the NFR.
“I got my hand stuck and scared myself into staying on,” Dougherty joked. “I had no choice but to hang on and ride.
He’s earned $114,429 at The Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, more than doubling his earnings on the season for a grand total of $223,779 — good for third place in the world standings.
And it’s not over yet! There’s two more rounds to go, tonight and tomorrow, as the season-ending rodeo championships wrap up this season. Go get ’em, Chase!
