CEF Brings Speaker to Canby to Help Families Navigate Technology at Home

The Canby Educational Foundation is bringing an award-winning author and psychologist to the Canby Fine Arts Center this week to discuss innovative research and practical tips about how technology is shaping our society.

Doreen Dodgen-Magee.
This educational talk will aid parents in understanding their children’s reality and equip them to engage in social media, digital entertainment and tech in healthier ways, the foundation said in a press release.

The free event will include a 90-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer period. It will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Richard R. Brown Fine Arts Center at Canby High School.

“With the quickly evolving world of social media, apps, filters and everything in between, we could all use a guide to help navigate this complex space,” CEF Executive Director Heather Zimmer said in the release.

“Doreen has answers for families. Her relatable and entertaining approach to digital citizenship will make for an enjoyable and educational evening.”

“We are grateful to CEF for bringing Dr. Dodgen-Magee to Canby, providing a timely and important learning opportunity for our entire community,” added Dr. Michelle Wilson, Canby School District assistant superintendent.

The event will be translated into Spanish. Tickets to the event are free and can be reserved online.

The mission of the Canby Educational Foundation is to enhance and enrich educational opportunities for all students of the Canby School District through financial assistance and communitywide volunteerism.

The funds raised help facilitate and fill financial gaps between district budgets, classroom fundraising and other grants. CEF was founded in January 1997 and organized as a section 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation for funds to be used exclusively for charitable purposes.

Since its inception, CEF has supported the Canby School District with over $1 million in educational grants generated through private donations, endowments and fundraising efforts.
