CCC Student Journalists Take Home Newspaper Awards

Student journalists at Clackamas Community College recently won 14 journalism awards in the 2021 Oregon Collegiate Newspaper Contest.

Among the awards were first-place prizes for sports photo and feature photo.

Students from The Clackamas Print, the news organization at Clackamas Community College, also won awards in the two-year school category for their website, review writing, headline writing and column writing.

The awards were presented by the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association via Zoom at the annual Collegiate Day held on May 7.

The Clackamas Print received a first-place award for this photo of a Clackamas Community College wrestler working out in the predawn hours at the Oregon City campus in the fall of 2020.

Dozens of students from Oregon colleges and universities took part in the virtual awards presentation.

“I’m so proud of our newspaper and all the staff that I have had the honor of working with for the past two years,” said Laura Canida, editor in chief of The Clackamas Print.

“Our staff is so creative and hardworking. Since the pandemic, everyone has stepped up and created some wonderful online work. It’s been an honor to be a part of this great team. I’ve enjoyed watching everyone grow, and I can’t wait to see what this next year brings.”

Staff also won a second-place award for their coverage of Covid-19 as well as a third-place award for coverage of the 2020 Portland protests.
