CCC Again Named One of the ‘Best for Vets’

Military Times has once again named Clackamas Community College one of the best schools in the nation for veterans in its Best for Vets: Colleges 2019 rankings.

CCC supports those who have served through its Veterans and Education Training (VET) Center, where veterans find camaraderie as well as assistance in using their VA benefits to achieve their education and career goals.

“Clackamas is the best college for vets because I can rest easy knowing that my paperwork is straight and the staff in the VET Center willing to go the extra mile to make sure students are taken care of,” CCC student and Marine veteran Austin Van Houte said.

The Military Times ranks colleges in three categories: four-year, two-year and online/nontraditional. Clackamas Community College ranked sixth nationwide for two-year colleges.

Military Times evaluates the many factors that make colleges and universities a good fit for service members, military veterans and their families. About 500 colleges took part in this year’s survey.

Military Times’ annual Best for Vets: Colleges survey asks colleges and universities to document their services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to students with military ties; and to describe the veteran culture on campus. Institutions are evaluated in several categories, with university culture and academic outcomes bearing the most weight.

“Our veterans are an integral part of our student body here at Clackamas Community College,” CCC President Tim Cook said. “Our VET Center often serves as the first point of contact for veterans and their families. Our staff and veteran student workers provide the continuity, connection and support they need. Additionally, our Military Families Scholarship Endowment provides much needed financial aid to initiate and sustain their academic goals.”

The CCC Foundation’s Military Families Scholarship Endowment ensures that area service men and women, and their families, have support when it comes to their education. The endowment funds scholarships fees and education support and learning.

CCC is proud to serve veterans with a range of services, including the VET Center on the Oregon City Campus, which is staffed with full-time veteran advocates.
