Canby Utility Continues to Provide Services, Suspends Disconnects due to Nonpayment

Canby Utility is continuing to provide electrical and water services to customers despite its offices having been closed for weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The local utility has suspended all power and water non-payment disconnects for residential and commercial customers indefinitely while its offices on Southeast 3rd Avenue are closed, according to an April 13 release.

Canby Utility closed its offices to the public on March 16, reportedly “due to the concerns from the public and the warnings of the virus” and has taken other preemptive measures to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus. The offices will be closed until further notice.

Canby Utility is coordinating operations with the city government. During the closure, employees will be returning customer phone calls and continuing to respond- to electric and water related issues.

Canby Utility’s answering services is available 24-hours a day and will dispatch electric and water personnel to restore outages, water main breaks and other utility emergencies. For electric and water outages or emergencies, call 503-266-1156.

Customers should continue to make their payments electronically through the Canby Utility online bill pay system, at the onsite payment drop box, or at the drop-off box at Cutsforth’s Market.

Customers are asked to be patient, as payment processing may be delayed due to reduced staffing levels during the office closure. Canby Utility says it will continue to monitor services and follow the direction of city and public health officials in determining the appropriate time to resume normal activities.
