Canby Thespians Qualify for State after Strong Regionals

The Canby High School theater troupe qualified for the State Festival after a strong showing at the regional competitions at Parkrose High School this past weekend.

The Canby Thespians, which are officially organized under the team name Troupe 632, qualified in the small group musical category and solo musical category, along with two technical entries.

The small group number was choreographed by Stephanie Haynes and featured Brynn Spoon, Bri Voss, Audrina Brown, Bailie Inskeep, Chana Sasek, Michelle Carrillo-Barajas and Zach Goldbeck.

The group performed the iconic earworm “Cell Block Tango” from the hit 1975 musical Chicago.

The solo musical performer was Peyton Daugherty. She performed the modern classic “Lost in the Brass” from 2018’s Band Geeks: A New Music.

Ali Parsons submitted their tech scenic design and Erynn D’Alessandro her tech costume design both from Canby Theater’s production last month of The Importance of Being Earnest.

“We had such a blast getting to go to regionals at Parkrose High School,” said Spoon, a CHS senior who also serves as treasurer for Troupe 632. “This was the first big in-person theater event since the pandemic started and being able to present pieces we had been working on for over a month and watch tons of other amazing performers was a dream come true.

“The Oregon Thespians and Parkrose did a great job of putting together a fun and safe environment for us all to share our love of theatre.”

The Oregon Thespians’ 2022 State Festival will be held Thursday, March 31, through Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Salem Convention Center, Elsinore Theatre and Grand Theatre in Salem.
