The Canby splash pad is officially open — just in time for summer.
The City of Canby held a grand opening for the long-awaited water feature at Maple Street Park Friday afternoon.
The dedication ceremony included remarks by City Council President Traci Hensley, Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Barry Johnson and City Administrator Scott Archer, who also served as emcee.
Hensley thanked the city’s public works and parks departments for their work on the project and remarked on the importance of advisory committees saying, “having the input from the citizens is so important to us.”
Johnson spoke to the future plans at Maple Street Park, which includes the addition of pickleball courts to replace the tennis courts that were removed in 2019 to make way for the splash pad.
The Parks and Rec Advisory Committee is also improving Locust Street Park with plans to further expand its offerings as well, Johnson explained.
The splash pad will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The water cycles through the structure automatically, giving children the opportunity to experience different features at different times.
Maple Street Park is located at 1400 North Maple Street between Territorial Road and Northeast 10th Avenue.
