Canby School District Continues Meal Service, Now Including Bus Delivery

For most of April, the fleet of buses that serve the Canby School District will not be in the business of transporting students to and from school. But officials have found a new and welcome use for them: delivering meals.

The district had already extended the availability of grab-and-go meals, which are available for all children 18 and under. Those may be picked up between 9 and 11 a.m. at Baker Prairie, Eccles, Trost and Ninety-One School.

“As we navigate the extended school closure, we are committed to providing meals to as many children in our community as possible,” District Communications Coordinator Autumn Foster said in a March 31 email to families. “As such, we are adding bus delivery of meals that will begin tomorrow, April 1.”

On the first day of the delivery service, the district delivered or handed out meals for over 1,300 local kids.

Each sack meal contains breakfast and lunch. The district reminds residents to maintain six feet of distance when picking up a meal, either at one of the schools or from the new bus delivery service.

Bus delivery routes, times and drop-off points are available on the district’s website here. Please allow 10 minutes from the scheduled time for bus delivery as drivers adjust to these new and/or combined routes.
