The Canby Prayer Breakfast will return for its 17th year next month at the Cutsforth’s Town Hall above Cutsforth’s Market.
The annual initiative of the Canby Christian faith community coincides with the National Day of Prayer and will return in person after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19.
“We feel gratitude, hope, a sense of renewal and the joy of Christ shared in community at the prospect of coming back together in person to pray as a community,” said Ray Keen, director of The Canby Center and one of the event’s organizers.
The event brings together leaders and congregants from many Canby-area Christian churches and will also feature remarks and prayer from Canby Mayor Brian Hodson. The event was known as the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast before being rechristened in 2019.
Prayer and fellowship will be high priorities on the day’s agenda, with intercessions offered for the city, state, country and world as well as those who lead them.
“When we meet on May 5, we will give thanks for the blessings of God and pray for the leaders in Canby, Clackamas County, Oregon, the United States, and the world,” Keen said.
“Personally, I pray that we would grow in our appreciation for the blessings Canby has enjoyed, that our relationship with God and each other would be strengthened in their resilience, and that we would be a reminder to all in Canby that God’s heart is for all people to be saved from the sickness of sin.”
The theme of both the National Day of Prayer and the Canby Prayer Breakfast this year is “Exalt the Lord.”
“In Canby, many people carry forward a faith in God that has been handed down from one generation to another,” Keen said. “This faith reaches back to the one who established Christianity, Jesus Christ. The life of Christians are rooted in Christ, built up in Christ, trusting in Christ, and overflowing with gratitude. Coming together to Exalt the Lord is this very overflow of gratitude.
The event will feature a full catered breakfast by Cutsforth’s Market. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased online at bit.ly/CanbyPrayer2022.
