Canby Municipal Court to Relocate to City Hall

Canby’s municipal court is on the move.

City officials say the court, which handles city and state law offenses committed within city limits — including misdemeanors, traffic violations and parking cases — will relocate to the Canby Civic Center, located at 222 N.E. 2nd Ave., starting next week.

The move allows for payments to be taken at City Hall, while future court appearances will take place in the City Council Chambers.

The administrative offices for Canby Municipal Court will relocate to the second floor of the Civic Center. Once Covid-19 restrictions are reduced, court appearances will be held in the council meeting room on the lower level every Tuesday starting at 9 a.m.

At this time, all court appearances are being conducted by phone or video conference.

“We initially envisioned our municipal court as being part of our civic center when it was built,” explained Canby City Attorney and Assistant City Administrator Joseph Lindsay. “This move makes that vision a reality, and we are excited to finally house this service entirely at City Hall.”

The municipal court and its administrative offices were previously housed at the Canby Police Department, 1175 N.W. 3rd Ave.
