The 2019 Canby Wine, Food and Brew was held this weekend at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds.
It featured dozens of area breweries, artisans, eateries and some of the most award winning and well-known vintners in the state of Oregon, including Merrill Cellars, Noble Estate, Stone Griffon, Wandering Duck, Catman Cellars, Vitis Ridge and Honeywood Winery.
One of the most popular wineries throughout the weekend, though, was a draw at least as much for its eye-catching name as for its reputation for quality vintages.
Justin Lovinger, the second generation in a family owned confectionery, Portland Fudge Co., said they still make their 12 varieties of delicious treats “the old fashioned way.”
4 Spirits Distillery was also a big hit. Their line of hand crafted whiskeys, rums, gins and vodkas spans more than four labels. The name of the company has a much deeper meaning behind it than the number of products they offer, as Katie Allard explains.
Jeff Jarrett is the owner, founder and cidermaker at 12 Bridge Ciderworks in Oregon City. He had a good reason for getting into making cider: He wasn’t any good at making beer.
Don’t worry: Jeff says he’s not offended that the name of the festival didn’t include him.
The festival wasn’t just about eating and drinking. Now, don’t get me wrong: It was primarily about eating and drinking. But there was other stuff going on, too: Live music, ax throwing (because what could possibly go better with alcohol than hurtling axes through the air?) and even art.
Tammy Plummer and Deanna Bany, of Sister Skape Studios, were on hand for the Wine & Paint “Buzz Studio.”
