Canby Area Chamber Parts Ways with New Director After Two Months

The Canby Area Chamber of Commerce is again in search of a leader, after parting ways with new CEO Tracy Zawacki after two months on the job.

Zawacki, a former interior design and luxury furniture executive from Utah, was announced as the new head of the chamber on Monday, November 21. She first introduced herself to chamber members the following month, speaking briefly during the organization’s annual holiday luncheon on December 6 at Cutsforth’s Old Town Hall.

But the Current learned that the Canby Area Chamber Board of Directors decided to part ways with their new executive last week, which was confirmed by staff and a January 16 email to members. The email offered no explanation for the board’s decision.

“As some of you may have heard, the Chamber has recently parted ways with former Executive Director Tracy Zawacki,” the email began. “As we move forward, we want to assure you that our focus is on providing value to our members, growing as an organization and planning for a robust 2023.”

The email from staff noted that the chamber board also held its annual retreat last week, in which they held officer nominations, reviewed committees and planned for 2023.

“During this meeting, the board discussed interim solutions to address chamber needs at this time of transition and will be implementing these strategies in the weeks ahead,” the email said.

The message concluded by encouraging members to take advantage of opportunities to serve on committees, attend trainings and educational seminars and plug into chamber activities.

“If you are a new member or haven’t been to an event in some time, we encourage you to attend,” it said. “We take pride in being an organization that brings together community leaders, city officials, business owners and citizens. This will continue with our monthly luncheons, social events, and Good Morning Canby.”
