Better Angels Workshop Will Teach How to Start a Political Conversation — Not a Fight

Better Angels, a  citizens’ organization  uniting red and blue Americans in a working alliance to depolarize the country, is coming to Clackamas County.

Two local presenters affiliated with the group will present a free, innovative workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Wilsonville Public Library, 8200 SW Wilsonville Road.

The workshop is designed to bring together people of different political perspectives in a structured conversation. Goals include: to better understand the beliefs and experiences of others while also sharing your own, to find commonalities and understand differences, and to bring what we learn back to our communities.

Anyone interested in having better conversations with people on the other side of the political aisle. For the purposes of this workshop, you will be asked to define yourself as “Red” (a person who leans conservative and tends to vote Republican) or “Blue” (a person who leans liberal and tends to vote Democratic). Independents are welcome, but you will be asked to identify as red-leaning or blue-leaning. There are also a certain number of “observer” spaces available.

The main reason you should go? One of the presenters, Linda Scher, was one of the first guests ever on the Canby Now Podcast, and she’s amazing! Pre-registration is required! To reserve your place, email linda@schermediate.com with the subject line “Better Angels.”

We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory…will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature. — Abraham Lincoln, 1861
