Aurora Man Dies in Three-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5

An Aurora man was killed early Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 5 near the Canby/Charbonneau exit.

Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the scene at approximately 5:45 a.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, 65-year-old Aurora resident William H. Kavanaugh stopped his Kia Rio in the lane of travel for unknown reasons.

Police say Antonia Mejia Romero, 32, of Woodburn, then drove her Lexus into the stopped Rio — which pushed it into a Chevrolet Colorado operated by 43-year-old Gregorio Rubio Villafuerte, also of Aurora.

Kavanaugh sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.

OSP was assisted at the scene by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
